Originally made to reveal the wrapped edge of a painting, Floating Frames are mouldings that mount a stretched canvas with a gap between the edge of the frame and the edge of the canvas, giving the appearance that your canvas is “floating” inside the frame. Most often floating frames are very minimalist in style, intended to provide a clean and modern look for canvasses that otherwise would not be framed. Floating frames are specifically designed for artworks on canvas, works on paper can be mounted with various floating techniques in a traditional frame, but will not work in a floating frame. Finished corner frame mouldings are the finest we offer. These are hand carved museum quality frames using 18-22 karat gold leaf gilding. Period style mouldings are available in French, Louis XIV, XVI, XV, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, American and 20th Century and more. Although they can have very elaborate ornamentation, clean contemporary styles are available as well. Our finished corner frames, (also called “closed corner”) are made in New York by true craftsmen employing old world frame making techniques.
